Here is your weekly dose of high quality TikTok infos:
Despite the rumours til today, September 6, no final deal has been made. TikTok’s prospective buyers are discussing four ways to structure an acquisition (Reuters, September 2).
We talk about these four topics today:
🧊 Content Density
🎤 Duet
🐝 Stitch
🛹 Stuff

🧊 Content Density
Josh, who has a newsletter, has written a fantastic and widely shared essay last week introducing the concept of content density:
I define Content Density as the entertainment value of a piece of content divided by its length — how many oohs, ahhs, huhs, or hahas per second. Content Density is a measure of broadcast efficiency. The higher the density, the faster and more frequently the content delivers on its purpose of being cute, informative, inspiring, impressive, alluring, or funny.
There is a ton of observations in the essay. It is important because it explains why TikTok is so successful and how video content on the internet is currently changing in a pretty impressive way. Again! I totally agree that “micro-entertainment creation will grow rapidly and could rival or even cannibalize Stories creation and consumption.” The stories concept ladies and gentleman was made popular trough Instagrams blunt Snapchat copy in August 2016. That was only four years ago.
Another interesting aspect in the essay is an explanation why “we’d rather watch storyboarded micro-entertainment than haphazard autobiographical social media.” Josh calls it “Falling In Love With Strangers” vs. “the pre-social network activity of watching an endless photo slideshow at a friend’s house when they got back from vacation”. Yes.
Do you have favourite high density content examples or stuff that you tried out? Please let me know. Will share in one of the next newsletters if you like… I enjoyed this high density music documentary. Great account if you ask me.
🎤 Duet
I was pretty intrigued when i saw the duet-feature being used for interviews.
In fact the entire duet-feature is great. Here is an explainer on How to duet on TikTok and record a video alongside someone else's. Try it out! It could be used for fact-checking or inventing new formats like e.g. a modern form of the interview without words. Or for just being nice.
🐝 Stitch
TikTok has added a new feature which enables users to re-use snippets of other people's video clips, in order to create responses and remixes on the theme (SocialMediaToday, September 4).
More infos over at TikTok: Stitch allows users the ability to clip and integrate scenes from another user's video into their own. Like Duet, Stitch is a way to reinterpret and add to another user's content, building on their stories, tutorials, recipes, math lessons, and more.
Not sure if someone at TikTok has seen the brilliant Edwyn Collins documentary but indeed: The possibilities are endless!
To me it is not just another feature but proof that we are finally leaving 20st century concepts like a strict copyright behind. It is not about stealing content but about living in an environment that is and has been coined by remixing and remodeling. Most likely for the good. One of TikToks core success features to me is the sharabilty across services. Mister Zuckerberg tear down the wall.
🛹 Stuff
I have seen quite a lot of good stuff out there last week. So here is a highly personal list of things for you.
The legacy of the skate video lives on in TikTok. Yes, indeed! I like this guy daily 360 flip journey from 245lbs→185lbs
TikTok account on Data Privacy “I just want u to know ur data privacy rights” via Sham Jaff
Manga and food and more. Soothing.
You want to start learning the transition game. Head Spin.
Maybe a 360 camera is a good idea after all? Playing Tennis. I have a Insta 360. Can recommend…
Here is a final recommendation. Food. Check out the combination of visual and audio layer. What a combination of storytelling. Yet again, quite dense. Compare that to a tv program from the past…
See you next week. Thx and Ciao
