Hi Marcus! 👋 Johana from Prague here. There is a lot of political cringe content on Czech TikTok as well nowadays. Populist party ANO is leading the way with politicians (ex-PM Andrej Babiš) @andrejbabis and his colleague @aschillerka (Alena Schillerová, ex-finance minister). They are gaining massive following and engagement. Recently, Andrej Babiš has shared disinfo about Ukrainian grain being toxic (https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGe5MvYFN/) or Alena Schillerová criticizing her democratic politicians using GenZ slang (https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGe5McE1K/).
One of the European Parliament candidates Danuše Nerudová successfully responded to Schillerova by embracing the cringe here: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGe5M3owh/
I have been following this for a while now. Would be happy to share more if u need! :) Have a nice weekend.
Hi Johana! Thanks so much for sharing. Will check out the examples. It would be cool to have some sort of digital event where people from different countries share best and worst practices of political communication on the platform. Just a thought. Have a nice weekend too
A global comparison of this phenomenon would be fascinating. I've seen this happening as well in LATAM (México, Argentina, Colombia). I'm not familiar with German politics, but this could be quite educational and see how the cringe manifest across geo-political spectrums.
Thanks Juan. Super eager to learn more about TikTok for political communication in LATAM. Could you see yourself presenting some best and worst cases for e.g. 15 minutes online some day in the coming weeks?
Let's do it! I'm no expert but can share some examples about candidates using TikTok for their campaigns. Also, this March 28 I'll start a trip with no access to my laptop for a bit over 2 weeks, so either we can have a quick chat today or tomorrow, or reconnect when I'm back.
EDIT: Damn, candidates seem to have removed these examples after the elections passed in their respective regions. Not sure if this is common, but I can see how this content is not intended to just be there forever, but it's tied to elections and they (or their teams) intentionally remove it after the results.
I am currently travelling too. so let's connect in the second half of April. Would you mind sending your mail? m@marcus-boesch.de – And that is an interesting point. Too bad if the examples are gone :/
Perfect! I started to ask around on the Understanding TikTok Discord https://discord.gg/VyT73cNF Let's see if we can spark interest and gather people from all over :)
